“Before coming to Hambidge, in addition to working as a home-schooling instructor at an alternative high school attended by kids with emotional challenges, I continued my work coordinating and fundraising for a weekly arts program at a senior center. I arrived at Hambidge having completed and sold a novel but needing to make another round of revisions in a very short timeline. The energizing landscape of the Georgia hills, the hospitality and support of residency staff, and the great food, helped me accomplish this goal which would have been impossible under the duress of with my work distractions in New York City. During the early weeks of the residency, I was able to properly study the editorial comments and make substantial revisions and now have a much stronger novel. I also revised several essays. During the residency I met numerous visual artists and writers who provided artistic inspiration as well as specific professional and artistic ideas. The residency supported my current work, strengthened my confidence, renewed my energy for future projects, and widened the community I can now access to support my writing.”
