ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This retreat is an immersive three-day workshop designed to deepen your skills in observational, plein air painting. Hosted in a beautiful mountain setting, this hands-on retreat offers the perfect environment to slow down, observe closely, and refine your ability to capture your subject in watercolor.

ABOUT THE LEADER

Practicing artist, former curator, and art professor Eric O’Dell was born in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. His father worked in the textile industry which eventually took the family to Panama City, Florida. After high school, Eric attended Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, where he studied fine art and philosophy. He went on to attend Florida State University and, after earning his MFA in studio art, he along with his wife returned to Macon. He became an arts program director for AmeriCorps followed by several years at the Museum of Arts and Sciences where he eventually served as the Director of Exhibitions and Collections. Mr. O’Dell was a highly regarded adjunct teacher over the years and became a full time faculty member at Mercer in 2013.

Please note: Check-in is 1-5pm on the first day of your workshop. If this is an impossibility, please confirm any deviation in advance with staff at workshops@hambidge.org. A mandatory group orientation is held at 5pm on the date of your arrival. Departures are by 2pm on the final day of your workshop.
