“One of the most important aspects of the creative process is having space -conceptual, physical- to contemplate our craft, alternating with time for uninterrupted workflow. It’s not just about “alone time” ...having a supportive environment (philosophy, people, place, supplies, recreation, rest, nutrition) is essential. Creativity usually happens best when obligations and expectations are relaxed; paradoxically this tends to facilitate and heighten productivity. I feel such gratitude at the opportunity to be at Hambidge. From the welcome and throughout our stay the staff and residents of Hambidge support the artist's path in body (we rest and recharge!), mind (a million ideas exchanged at every dinner), and soul (the immeasurable and deep connection to this beautiful setting and community). It’s an all-too-rare gift to take the dive into imagination without limits. While some artistic work is completed here, much of the in-progress work begun will continue to develop over months and years. The flowers of the seeds planted here will continue radiating beauty into the world in outsized proportion to our relatively brief visit.
